Early outdoor play predicts trajectories of child mental health in a population-based cohort

In this webinar, Professor Helen Dodd will take us through her recently published research, which shows that outdoor play in early childhood links to better mental health through to middle childhood. This work forms part of Helen’s programme of work, which aims to bring scientific rigour to the study of children’s outdoor play and mental health.

Helen is Professor of Child Psychology at the University of Exeter and Director of the newly founded Outdoor Play Research Centre. She is a passionate advocate for children’s right to play and the importance of outdoor, adventurous play in particular for supporting children’s healthy development.

The webinar will provide an opportunity to hear about this recent research and to consider what this means for practice and how we can proactively support children’s outdoor play, despite the barriers that can exist.
