This assessment unit is suitable for:
practising mentors working with classroom-based teachers (practising classroom teachers and middle leaders may opt to undertake the Development of Teaching Practice Award and practising school leaders may opt to undertake the Development of Teaching Practice Award (Leadership) instead). This Development of Teaching Practice Award (Mentor) explores the development of mentoring expertise and has been developed specifically for mentors working with classroom-based teachers. You will identify an area of your mentoring practice that you would like to develop, reflect upon and evaluate. You will engage in cycles of purposeful practice, which will include: setting yourself specific goals, seeking feedback, and implementing changes in order to refine your mentoring approaches. Please note: In undertaking this assessment unit you will be required to seek feedback on your teaching from a colleague, supervisor or coach. Or alternatively, you can seek feedback from a mentee.

What does the assessment unit include?
As part of the supporting content for this assessment unit, you will have access to a short online course that will help you to familiarise yourself with the evidence around development of teacher expertise and guide you through the process of purposeful practice, alongside reading lists, exemplars and full assessment guidance.
What does the assessment cover?
You will submit a portfolio for formal assessment, which will include an evidence-informed action plan, two purposeful practice reflections and a recorded presentation.
