This assessment unit is suitable for:

Individuals who have undertaken and successfully completed the National Tutoring Programme Training Course for School-Led Tutors or National Tutoring Programme Training Course for Academic Mentors.

This NTP Advanced Accreditation provides access to two examinations and has been designed specifically for individuals who have completed the National Tutoring Programme training to demonstrate a broad understanding of research and evidence around effective teaching and learning and its relevance to tutoring. There are routes for both QTS and Non-QTS holders.

How long should it take to complete this assessment unit?

What examinations will I undertake

You will be required to undertake the following two examinations; Objective Structured Teaching Exercise (OSTE), which is a scenario-based examination, designed to assess knowledge of formative assessment, applied within the context of small-group tutoring. Written examination, which is designed to assess knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies and how they apply to tutoring within the context of your subject, phase or specialism.

How do I prepare for these examinations?

To prepare candidates for taking these examinations, we will provide detailed examination guidance, reading lists, exemplars and practice examinations so they can familiarise with the examination style and format. Successful completion of the two examinations leads to the Award in Professional Knowledge for Tutoring.

Eligibility and prerequisites

Prior to purchasing this unit, you must have completed the National Tutoring Programme Training Course for School-Led Tutors or National Tutoring Programme Training Course for Academic Mentors, and provided certified evidence of this to the Chartered College of Teaching Accreditation team via charteredteacher@chartered.college.
