Equity in education: challenge for all with Morgan Whitfield

In her recently published book Gifted? The Shift to Enrichment, Challenge and Equity, Morgan Whitfield advocates for “challenge for all” as an inclusive approach to teaching, whereby every student is invited, and given the tools, to reach a place of mastery.

Drawing on her experience of school leadership and classroom practice across three continents, Whitfield argues that while we may have new labels – “more able”, “high ability”, “high aptitude” – the concept of “gifted” remains stubbornly embedded in educational structures, with a legacy of social immobility, racism, and sexism. Students can be “more able” when they have more financial resources, more access, more visibility, or more cultural acceptance. There are pervasive narratives that educators should prioritise extension for some students and not others.

Free and open to all schools worldwide, this live webinar will explore ways to confront the structural inequities that exist in the data systems, pedagogy and curriculum pathways of a school, and ensure that every student is provided with rigorous challenge.
