This is the third in the series of seminars, hosted by the Chartered College of Teaching, which will inspire and enable new thinking about the benefits and viability of developing research-informed and research-generating practices. Inspired by the innovative series of books ‘Unlocking Research’ (editors, Dr James Biddulph and Mrs Julia Flutter, Routledge) each seminar will focus on each book in the series, with teachers, teaching assistants and academics presenting ideas and ways in which research influenced practice and how practice influenced research.

Participants will hear from our panel of speakers:  Luke Rolls FCCT ‘Values led vision for curriculum design’;  Richard Dunne, The Harmony Project Director and Dr Philip Kirkman, Anglia Ruskin University “What does research-informed really mean? Some reflections on Dixons Primary”.

Keynote: Professor Mark Priestley ‘Concepts and Practices’ –  In this presentation, Mark will explore different aspects of the school curriculum, offering a critique of linea and simplistic views around curriculum implementation. Starting with questions of educational purpose, he will then examine different ways in which we may conceptualise the curriculum, including addressing questions around the place of knowledge and the selection of content.  He will also explore the implications of viewing teachers as active curriculum makers in their own contexts, especially pertinent in the face of modern politicised tendencies to position the curriculum as ‘teacher-proof’ and teachers as technicians ‘delivering’ a product’ developed externally to schools.
