The importance of preparing early career teachers to be able to facilitate progress for all learners has been put into focus in the Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Teacher Framework (DfE, 2024).
The University of Derby’s initial teacher training/education (ITT/E) provision subscribes to the notion that high-quality, adaptive and inclusive practice can achieve positive outcomes for all children, regardless of their linguistic, ethnic, socio-cultural or gender identity (Smythe, 2025). We are also mindful of the research-to-practice gap (Cook and Farley, 2019) and have balanced our curriculum with both foundational pedagogic theory and practical application to meet these challenges.
