The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) is leading a research study which offers a unique take on behaviour in schools based on the Authoritative School Climate framework developed by educational psychologists. This research is jointly funded by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) and developed in collaboration with educational psychologists at UCL.
The study is aiming to build new evidence on how school environment can support better pupil outcomes — including improved attendance and reduced exclusions. We are keen to collaborate with schools that are interested in reflecting on their behaviour practices and contributing to national evidence that could shape future guidance and support for schools. As a part of the study, we are inviting headteachers, teachers, and pupils in Years 7–9 to take part in a short online survey exploring how school policies and practices shape the climate of schools in England.
Each participating headteacher and teacher will receive a £10 Love2Shop e-voucher as a thank-you.Participating schools will have their perspectives represented in findings shared with policymakers and educators across England and will also receive a short summary on insights of their school’s own results. The insights generated from these surveys will contribute to better understand how policies and practices influence pupil behaviour, attendance, and learning. If your school is interested in taking part, you can sign up here: https://survey.natcen.ac.uk/SCSOpt-inFormFor further information — including the information sheet and privacy notice — please visit our project webpage at www.natcen.ac.uk/SchoolClimateStudy.
