Supporting a paradigm shift: Introducing a religion and worldviews syllabus

JENNIFER JENKINS, RE, SIAMS AND SPIRITUALITY OFFICER, COVENTRY DIOCESAN BOARD OF EDUCATION, UK Shifting horizons for religious education and the changing religious landscape The Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) bodies in Coventry and Warwickshire recently launched their new local Agreed Syllabus for religious education (RE), written in partnership with Coventry Diocesan Board of Education (DBE), which is the organisation with responsibility for Church of England schools within the Diocese of Coventry (Jenkins et al., 2024). Part of the role of SACRE is to support the local authority in creating a suitable RE syllabus for all the schools in the area and to then support schools in implementing it for high-quality RE. Schools are used to the steady flow of RE syllabi, with the law requiring a change or, at the very least, a review every five years.
