Development of Teaching Practice Award
This assessment unit is suitable for: Practising classroom teachers and middle leaders (practising school leaders should undertake the Development of Teaching Practice Award (Leadership) instead).
This Development of Teaching Practice Award explores the development of teacher expertise and has been developed specifically for practising classroom teachers. You will identify a specific aspect of your teaching practice that you would like to develop, reflecting upon and evaluating your current practice before engaging in cycles of deliberate practice to refine your approaches and hone your expertise in your chosen area.
Please note: In undertaking this assessment unit you will be required to seek feedback on your teaching from a colleague, coach or mentor.

What does the Assessment Unit include?:
As part of the supporting content for this assessment unit, you will have access to a short online course that will help you to familiarise yourself with the evidence around development of teacher expertise and guide you through the process of deliberate practice, alongside reading lists and exemplars. You will also gain complimentary access to IRIS Connect software to support you to record, reflect on and analyse your practice.
What does the assessment cover?:
You will submit a portfolio for formal assessment, which will include an evidence-informed action plan, two deliberate practice reflections and a recorded presentation.
