Informal learning pedagogy in school music education is at risk of losing its place within the classroom – but why does that matter? Within this perspective piece, I will explore the underpinning literature surrounding the phenomenon of informal learning pedagogy ,and consider the place and value of the approach within the wider contemporary school music context. It is hoped that, by doing so, increased awareness of informal learning pedagogy as an innovative and creative teaching and learning approach for music education can be achieved. I will advocate for the sustainability of the approach as part of a balanced pedagogy.
